1. DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOUR PROBLEM

This includes chronic defiance of teachers and people in authority, violence, aggression, bullying of fellow learners, vandalism, destruction of property, noise making, restlessness etc.

These problems are directed against fellow learners, teachers and school authority.

                CAUSES OF DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOUR PROBLEM

  • Students personality problem
  • Peer group influence – learners with personality traits or problems often form gangs intentionally.
  • School policy – rigid school policy often attracts student’s reaction.
  • Activities of the teacher – like harsh and injurious characteristics behaviour.
  • Laxity in handling of cases of misconduct. This makes the students to think that the teacher is inactive or incapable of handling such subject.
  • Too intimate relationship with the learners. the teacher loses his respect and learners will not subject themselves to discipline
  • Poor handling of subject matters if the teacher can’t teach to show the full mastery of his subject or topic while teaching his teaching is half done , not well planned  and not well executed , dirty dressing , poor setting arrangement, poor classroom relationship, shabby dressing , tone of voice , poor language expression .
  • Delayed and denied feedback.
  • Mental and physical fatigue – they become restless because they want a change of activity.
  • Boredom – boring lessons, when the teacher refuses to arouse the interest of the students.
  • Frustration – When a task is so difficult for the learners they become in cooperative, frustrated, restless. This happens when learners are engaged in practical work.
  • Use of punishment – Teacher should not punish the whole class at a time , investigate and get the person that committed the crime and punish him alone not in mass

CONTROL OF STUDENTS BEHAVIOUR, BY THE FOLLOWING

  1. Use of reinforcement or behaviour modification.

We reinforce only the positive behaviour, reinforcement helps the child to behave in a more encouraging way .

  1. CONTROL OF MISBEHAVIOUR THROUGH BEHAVIUOR MODIFICATION

Teachers should use behaviour modification in controlling misbehaviour of students whose aim is to draw attention to themselves .this is alternative to punishment by this technique the teacher ignores learners misbehaviour, the learners receives the teachers attention only when he behaves well (in ways that are socially or cognitively desirable) This may lead to more acceptable behaviour which will attract reward or commendation.

NOTE: it may however be dangerous to ignore certain behaviour such as acts of aggression or destruction which may bring some harm to others.
